Larry’s memories and love of Joe’s Stone Crab

I had the distinct honor of having broadcasting giant, Larry King, dictate the forward to my book honoring “our” favorite eatery-Joe’s Stone Crab (the second highest grossing restaurant in the US).

Having completed the book, I knew I needed a killer forward. I needed someone who loved Joe’s Stone Crab as much as I did.

I called his bagel joint in Beverly Hills and asked his manager when Larry would be in.  He said he came in every morning.

I asked if I sent a fax, would he get it to him.  He said he would.

The next morning, I picked up the phone at my desk here in Miami.

The conversation went like this:

- Deeny?

- Yes?

- This is Larry King.

- Hi Larry.

- Can you type fast?

- Sure!

And the forward to “Waiting at Joe’s”, the story about the waiters at Joe’s Stone Crab, and NOT the wait, was done.

Larry’s memories and love of Joe’s Stone Crab were the perfect intro to the story about the waiters, some who had been waiting at Joe’s for 50 years.

Larry will always be a part of my story.

Rest in Peace.

Deeny.
